STEM Fellowship

The STEM Fellowship in the I-Zone is a collaborative effort between Crossroads Elementary and the Hamline University Masters of Arts in Teaching program. The Fellowship is designed to provide a Hamline grad student pursuing their K-6 teaching license with the opportunity to work with elementary students in a hands-on, inquiry-based, science environment.

In the I-Zone, the STEM Fellow helps curate the physical space, including stations, materials, and education animals. Additionally, the Fellow works with a small team of educators to plan and implement sessions in the I-Zone for every class, grades K-5. These sessions include mini lessons, writing support, modeling, and discussion as well as the core investigation time when students engage with their individual stations.

After completing a semester-long experience in the I-Zone, the STEM Fellow then transitions into his or her student teaching at Crossroads Elementary. In this way, Hamline University is building a lasting relationship with Crossroads while providing the STEM Fellow with the opportunity to spend an extended amount of time working within one school.

The current STEM Fellow is Robyn Char. With a background in arts education and environmental education, Robyn brings her passion for experiential learning and discovery to the I-Zone.
